The Garden Once More

– Janet Caldwell

I remember a time
when we danced
loved and laughed.

We were brighter
than our sister moon
and the stars.

Brother wind
continued to blow

and . . .

Father Sun
kept us warm.

In the garden
we were gods.

We were
a part of the all;
every tree
a part of you
a part of me.

The energy of every living thing
had tales to tell and songs to sing.

The trees knew that we
had need of shade.
They sprouted leaves
to cover us, while
lying naked in the plush
green grass’ blades.

The time was magical.

Communication . . .
with every being
was a possibility.

The waters raised
to greet us
with an invitation
to drink.
To join in with them.

And let their glorious
waves hold you and me.
Speak to me
oh waters of the deep.

Tell me about my brother
the giant squid.
With his large brain
and naked body
that stiffens
by an interior
cartilaginous skeleton.

He loves to swim and play. And
Stick to the sides of his friends
with those powerful suction cups.

Let me stay here forever
do not let me sleep.

In this garden now
is where I belong.

Alas, we did sleep
it swept across us
like a hazy day.
We forgot where
we came from.

Now, lessons had to be learned;
to maneuver through
this world
this life.

Let me remember again
ahhh, I am waking.

I remember this now;
there is no time
. . . no space

while we dance
love and laugh.

We are brighter than
our sister moon
and the stars.

Brother wind
continues to blow

and . . .

Father Sun
keeps us warm.

I AM here
in the Garden
once more.

Yes, I will

– Janet Caldwell

I did not want to go into this blind.
Tossing my favorite, rose colored glasses aside.

Inspecting the landscape, I took my time.
Searching the mountains high and the valleys below.

Old knee scrapes, from tumbling down
love’s craggy hill, made me cautious and slow.

Time? I am taking it still…
rest assured my love, I will.

The time for uncertainty has passed.
The abuses of yesteryear, have escaped.

Daggers no longer puncture a fragile heart
or the crevices of my mind.

You reintroduced me to self, once shelved, later buried.
I am strong and courageous, willing to shine.

You know, that funny lady with the great smile?
The abundance of love is busting, I have light to share.

Easy going, most days…always loving, even during
those perceived frightening times, I Am..self aware.

Thank you, My Love, for your patience
and a never ending kindness that breathes life…
into self possessed funeral pyres.

I love you more than I can say. And the answer
to your question is, yes, yes I will.
